Le mur du podium de l'amphithéâtre d'Arles

Abstract : Abstract – Since the Late antiquity, the Roman amphitheatre of Arles has been occupied by many constructions and the arches of its facade were closed by walls. The level of the ground inside the monument rose up slowly so that the arena and the first tiers of seats were covered. In the beginning of the 19th century, the destruction of these various constructions and the archeological excavations in the monument, revealed the well-preserved wall of the podium all around the arena. This study aims at analyzing the successive transformations of the wall and the openings within it.
