As the first psychoanalyst working with children, Hermine von Hug-Hellmuth took a special interest in their games. Her theoretical and clinical work – related to Freudian orthodoxy – as well as her tragic and unique life – her theoretical imposture with the Journal of a Young Girl, her murder by her nephew (her main patient) – are quite unknown.
In this article, we will study the echoes of these two aspects – life and work – given that in both cases, the Hug-Hellmuthian attempt to objectivize infantile had tragic consequences: for the therapist on the one hand, insofar as this conception led Hug-Hellmuth to her imposture plan and a subjective splitting, and for the patient on the other hand, insofar as the cure was thus conceived as a combination of inquisition and confidence.
This study of a pioneer’s writings allows us to grasp the decisive impact of the conception of the infantile on the child cure.
Hermine von Hug-Hellmuth fut la première psychanalyste d’enfants et à ce titre s’intéressa aux jeux de ces derniers. Ses œuvres théoriques et cliniques au service d’une orthodoxie freudienne sont assez peu connues tout comme d’ailleurs sa vie tragique et exceptionnelle (imposture théorique du Journal d’une jeune fille, assassinat par son neveu et principal patient). Cet article propose de mettre ces deux aspects en résonnance, la vie et l’œuvre, considérant que, dans l’un et l’autre cas, l’approche hug-hellmuthienne de l’infantile témoigne d’une tentative d’objectivation qui eut des conséquences tragiques. Du côté du thérapeute d’une part, dans la mesure où cette conception conduisit Hug-Hellmuth au projet d’imposture et à une schize subjective. Du côté du patient d’autre part dans la mesure où elle conduisit à une conception de la cure comme mélange d’inquisition et de confidence. Cette étude des écrits d’une pionnière permet de saisir l’impact décisif de la conception de l’infantile sur la cure de l’enfant.
