Psychic plurality and hypnotherapy

Abstract : The paper focuses on psychic plurality, particularly on its transformations and evolution. From a theoretical point of view, psychic plurality evolves from Janet, Federn and Kaësʼs works. In psychotherapy, this notion gave rise to treatments that differently mobilise representational processes, and alter the internal groupality when such becomes pathogenic. This point concerns the hypnotic model called “ego states” therapy, which is an ideal application of the psycheʼs groupal model because of the central role played by the dissociative process. The authors emphasize the importance of the “ego states” therapy in the treatment of dissociative pathologies and remind that, according to constructivism, many factors should be taken into account when interpreting hypnotic phenomena.
