SPACE DESIGN AS A TEST OF FRENCH-ITALIAN AND ITALIAN-FRENCH TRANSLATIONS: MORPHOSYNTACTIC AND LEXICAL ILLUSTRATIONS IN THE TRANSLATION OF A GRAPHIC NOVEL AND AN ESSAY THEORETICAL LINGUISTICS

Résumé
What happens when you move from a system of spatial representation to another through translation? I will illustrate the total or partial losses, at the morphosyntactical level, with the French translation of a graphic novel and, at the lexical level, with the Italian translation of a theoretical linguistics essay. The study of graphic novels will show that writings in standard Italian feature, according to the authors, regional spatial representation paradigms which are so many intermediate stages on the evolutionary movement of re-centering on the person of the speaker, and that the French translation presupposes a spatial reinterpretation whatever the type of departure. The lexical examples drawn from some of linguist Gustave Guillaume's writings show that theoretical models are based on cognitive references and refer to the author's spatial conception. I will show that the differentiation between literary and specialized translations is not so marked, otherwise the massive recourse to referential skills mobilized by metalanguage translation of theoretical scientifi c texts is understated.
