HISTOSPONGIA: A database on the Mediterranean sponge (18th century)

Abstract : Based on harbour and custom data sources, the HISTOSPONGIA database enables to reconstruct tonnages and qualities of sponges exploited in the Mediterranean on the long-term scale. This database highlights the earliness and scale of fishing carried out in the Gulf of Gabes during the 18th century. This database demonstrates the input from historical research for a better understanding of the modifications caused by anthropogenic intervention on the marine environment.
