Agency : un concept applicable aux associations féminines en Tunisie et au Maroc ?

Abstract : The concept of agency is very complex in its meaning in English and, indeed, it is impossible to find a corresponding word in other languages. Agency is usually paraphrased as “the power to act with a sense of self”. The present text discusses my early research in Tunisia and Morocco about the role of women’s groups in the context of trying to understand if this idea of a will and ability to act can be considered only as an individual initiative or as a collective capacity as well. Women who belong to these associations, with their daily activities, the work to defend those who are in a difficult situation without protection, with their protests and battles for equality and parity, assert their agency.
