Rhétorique des bénédictions inaugurales

Abstract : This extensive study was originated by a research achieved in view of a seminar held in 2013 at the Ecole normale supérieure of Paris. It belongs to a series of studies dealing with discourse as performative, since opening blessings, being a particular kind of prayer, undoubtedly are speech acts. The corpus dealt with contains approximately a hundred examples, which belong either to epigraphical royal eulogies, either to court poetry (dramas, narratives, lyric poetry). The analysis bears on lexicology, grammar and phraseology. It points out constants and leads to the establishing of a typology of phrases. It aims at getting a better knowledge of Sanskrit literary types and at providing evidence for a comparative study.
