Revues.org : l’invention de l’édition électronique scientifique, entre libre accès et modèle économique pérenne

Abstract : Free access to scientific literature, acceptance by research and journal communities, Internet publishing and referencing solutions: these are the founding principles of Revues.org, a portal for humanities and social sciences journals created in 1999 as a complement to French institutions of higher education and research. They are also what distinguishes Revues.org in the field of scientific electronic publishing. This article provides a history of this association turned laboratory by foregrounding the issues that have punctuated and continue to guide its development, such as defining electronic publishing and its professions, developing ways for users to become more comfortable using a platform, developing new tools to assist researchers, and inventing an economic model for journals and for the portal.
