Un jeu des fractions pour le cycle 3

Abstract : The origin of this work is due to pupils' frequent mistakes relied on “the treatment of decimal numbers as juxtapositions of two natural numbers” (MEN, 2016b, p.1). We identify two main reasons why they appear: deficiencies in the formal understanding of rational numbers, which cause difficulties conceiving the integer part and the fractional part of a fraction, and a misconception of the decimal form of a decimal number into the decimal number system, the decimal form being not related to its fractional form. An evolutive game for the purpose of remedying such a situation has been created by the “Primary School” group of the IREM2 of Nice. This game is related to a progression throughout the cycle 3 (9 to 12 year old pupils), about fractions and decimal numbers. It allows pupils to “manipulate” some “simple” then decimal fractions in the sense of area measurement. It has been experimented in several classes and various levels of this cycle.
