This article presents the instrumental approach and concepts worked and developed by P. Rabardel: the distinction between technical object, artifact; the instrument a mixed entity; instrumental genesis; the instrumented activity in the instrumented action. It concludes with an example of the use of instrument theory to analyze a teaching situation centered on the design of a product through easily identifiable and analyzable action poles.

Cet article présente l'approche instrumentale et les concepts travaillés et développés par P. Rabardel : la distinction entre objet technique, artefact ; l'instrument une entité mixte ; la genèse instrumentale ; l'activité instrumentée dans l'action instrumentée. Il se termine par un exemple d'utilisation de la théorie de l'instrument pour analyser une situation d'enseignement centrée sur le design d'un produit au travers de pôles d'action facilement repérable et analysables.
