Atlas de l'Italie contemporaine

Abstract : This historical and geographical atlas takes advantage of the double look to grasp the complexity of Italian realities. Based on an unprecedented compilation of statistical data, the historical approach makes it possible to confront contemporary transformations with the legacies of the past. It is all the more necessary as Italy seems to be constantly hesitating between tradition and modernity, between inertia and brutal breaks. In just a few decades, the country has accomplished what others have done in more than a century, by asserting itself as a great industrial power and developing an original social model as well as a vibrant democracy, though recently weakened.
