Mémoire et poésie en Amérique centrale

Abstract : This paper proposes a reflection on memorial material and its use in the Central American poetic process in recent decades, a period of extreme violence in the region; it also analyses some specific practices of poetic memory in the isthmus. Starting with the study of a poem by Francisco Morales Santos (Guatemala, 1940), Madre, nosotros también somos historia (Mother, we are also history, 1988), the article first looks at some key moments in the reconstruction of historical memory in Central American poetry and, secondly, the recovery of the memory of the victims of state violence.
