Tourbières naturelles et anthropiques depuis 15 000 ans : Bilan des datations 14 C et comparaison avec les données bioclimatiques et archéologiques (Morvan, Forez, Devès, Mézenc)

Abstract : This article presents a synthesis of mire initiation since the last 15,000 years (Late Glacial and Holocene) in the Eastern Massif central (France). This work proposes an analysis of the chronological distribution of newly formed mires based on a dataset of 112 radiocarbon ages (14C). The results are compared with long-term land cover changes described by regional palaeoenvironmental (palynology and macrofossils), used to evaluate the degree of landscape openness and anthropization (Anthropogenic Impact Factor = FIA), and by archaeological studies. Various cases of mire initiation were highlighted during the studied period. Some peat accumulation examples occurred early (from 15,000 to 12,700 years before present), then a major generation of mires established during the postglacial warming. This generation (10,000 to 7,000 years before present) is represented by fens (minerogenous) derived from terrestrialized lakes and by bogs (ombrogenous) formed by paludifi cation. A second major generation is well documented during the last 4,200 years, and still increases in the last 2,800 years. During this phase, human activities favoured more or less directly the establishment of small bogs (behind low stone walls, raised causeways, in abandoned drainage systems) and fens (often on former ponds). All these cases are especially highlighted in the Mézenc Massif (Southern Massif central) which could be considered as a conservatory for the history of ecosystems, biodiversity and landscape evolutions.
