Star formation in the Vela Molecular Clouds: Near IR images

Résumé

We present the first results of a sensitive (K ≈ 17 mag) near IR (JHK) imaging survey of a complete IRAS selected sample of Young Stellar Objects (YSO’s) belonging to a Giant Molecular Cloud (GMC) located in the Vela Molecular Ridge (VMR). The same objects have also been observed at λ = 1.3mm. We provide identifications (i.e. NIR counterparts) and detailed spectral energy distributions (SED’s) for ten newly identified Class I objects. The envelope masses are consistent with central masses derivable from the observed luminosities. Detected multiplicity indicates that intermediate mass star formation might not represent an individual and isolated phenomenon.
