في أعقاب ماي 1968, ظلت وضعية العمال المهاجرين في فرنسا كارثية. فبالاضافة الى ظروف العمل الصعبة بالمصانع البؤس الذي يتقاسمونه مع العمال الفرنسيين, واجه العمال المهاجرون ظروف عيش مزرية بمساكن غير صحية , موجات من الجرائم العنصرية و كذلك بروز فئة من المهاجريين الغير الشرعيين برواتب تافهة. حينها قامت مجموعات من الطلاب اليساريين بحشد عمال شمال إفريقيا لتعويض أوجه القصور للنقابات العريقة ، التي فشلت في تلبية الاحتياجات المحددة المرتبطة بوضعية المهاجرين العرب. و تمكنوا أخيرا من تعبئة العمال المهاجرين من خلال صورة المقاتل الفلسطيني, الفدائي. ووقع التنظيم النضالي حول "لجان فلسطين" منذ العام 1970 ليس فقط لدعم فتح و منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية و لكن و قبل كل شيء للمطالبة بالعدالة في مواجهة الجرائم العنصرية ولتحسين ظروفهم المعيشية داخل و خارج المصانع و محاربة عمليات الاخلاء.
أدى تطور النظرة إلى الفلسطينيين في الشتات إلى تغيير نظرة المنفيين العرب ، العمال المغاربيين ، إلى أنفسهم بفرنسا. ما هي الكرامة التي وجدها العمال العرب في صورة الفدائي؟ كيف أصبحت هذه الصورة حافزا للتعبئة السياسية تتجاوز اطار القضية الفلسطينية؟
In the aftermath of May 1968, the situation of immigrant workers in France remained disastrous: to the speed of the factories and the misery shared with the French specialized workers were added unsanitary housing, waves of racist crimes, and the new appearance of a class of undocumented immigrants with anecdotal salaries. Groups of leftist students are trying to mobilize North African workers and thereby compensate for the shortcomings of traditional unions, which fail to meet the specific needs linked to the condition of Arab immigrants. It is ultimately through the figure of the Palestinian fighter, the feddai, that they manage to mobilize immigrant workers. From 1970, the latter organized themselves around the "Palestine Committees", not only to support Fatah and the PLO, but also and above all to demand justice in the face of racist crimes, to fight for the improvement of their living conditions inside and outside the factories, and fight against evictions. The evolution of the gaze cast on Palestinian exiles has resulted in France in a change in the gaze of other Arab exiles, the Maghreb workers, on themselves. What dignity did Arab workers find in the feddai image? How did this new image become a vector of political mobilization that was broader than the Palestinian question?
Aux lendemains de mai 1968, la situation des travailleurs immigrés en France reste désastreuse : aux cadences des usines et à la misère partagée avec les ouvriers spécialisés français s’ajoutent les logements insalubres, des vagues de crimes racistes, et l’apparition nouvelle d’une classe de sans-papiers aux salaires anecdotiques. Des groupes d’étudiants gauchistes tentent de mobiliser les ouvriers maghrébins et de pallier par-là aux manques des syndicats traditionnels, qui échouent à répondre aux besoins spécifiques liés à la condition d’immigré arabe. C’est finalement à travers la figure du combattant palestinien, le feddai, qu’ils parviennent à mobiliser les travailleurs immigrés. Dès 1970, ces derniers s’organisent autour des « Comités Palestine », non seulement pour soutenir le Fatah et l’OLP, mais aussi et surtout pour exiger la justice face aux crimes racistes, se battre pour l’amélioration de leurs conditions de vie dans les usines comme en dehors, et lutter contre les expulsions.
L’évolution du regard porté sur les exilés Palestiniens s’est traduite en France par un changement de regard d’autres exilés arabes, les travailleurs maghrébins, sur eux-mêmes. Quelle dignité les travailleurs arabes ont-ils trouvé dans l’image du feddai ? Comment cette image nouvelle est-elle devenue un vecteur de mobilisation politique plus large que la question palestinienne ?
