Corbillards et pompe funèbre en Espagne (fin XIXe-milieu du XXe siècle). La collection de corbillards du cimetière de Montjuïc (Col.lecció de Carrosses Fúnebres, Barcelone)

Abstract : Comprising hearses and vehicles used to transport families in funeral processions, including motor cars, the collection belonging to Montjuïc Cemetery examines historians of death in two ways. Showing the physical environment of funerals, this collection has great documentary –almost ethnographic- value. Its heuristic value is also discernible, as it enables us to reflect on the relationship contemporaries had with death. The significance of the Montjuïc Cemetery museum is explored in the article, as is the interest generated by the arrangement of objects that are part of a funeral culture. The circumstances in which this museum was established shed some light onto the roles of those who mediates between the deceased and the living, who work in the business of death.
