Du Museo à l’illustration : la fabrique d’hommes illustres de Paolo Giovio

Abstract : Paolo Giovio’s Museo, a collection of nearly four hundred portraits of illustrious men, has concentrated different types of illustration: the one, renowned, as sanctioned by History, of canonical illustrious men; the one of less famous characters acquired by them thanks to the pictorial collection; the one, finally, conferred by the passage to printing which, reconciling text and image, brought out of the Museo in Como the glory of illustrious men that had been collected there.
