VALENCE ET LE DETOURNEMENT DU TURIA : UNE REUSSITE INCOMPLETE
Abstract
After the disastrous 1957 flood of the rio Turia, the municipality of Valencia diverted the river by creating a new watercourse by pathing the city southwards. This considerable investment, which gave a new orientation to the spatial development of the city, had a negative impact on the suburban market- gardening huerta and on its irrigation networks. It had on the other hand a positive effect through the impact on the city’s communication network and through the development of the former river bed into recreation grounds.
Después de la catastrófica riada del rio Turia en octubre de 1957, el ayuntamiento de Valencia hizo desviar el rio ordenando un nuevo cauce quien rodea la ciudad por el sud. Esa considerable inversión da una nueva dirección al ensanche de la urbanización, tiene efectos negativos en la huerta periurbana y sus redes de acequias: ella tiene en contra efectos positivos por su impacto a través del nuevo esquema de comunicaciones para el área metropolitana y por la ordenación del antiguo cauce en un espacio de ocio.
Après la crue catastrophique du Turia en 1957, la municipalité de Valence détourne le fleuve en aménageant un nouveau lit qui contourne l'agglomération par le sud. Cet investissement considérable, qui donne une nouvelle orientation à la croissance spatiale de la ville, a des effets négatifs sur la huerta maraîchère périurbaine et ses réseaux d'irrigation : il a par contre des effets positifs par son impact sur le schéma des communications de la ville et par l'aménagement de l'ancien lit en espace de loisirs.
