Quelques méthodes et modèles pour l'étude de la morphogenèse cérébrale.

Abstract : This manuscript is a synthesis of ten years of pluridisciplinary research about the shape of the cerebral cortex. A first part presents some generic methods and models, coming from applied maths and computer science, to describe, represent and simulate shapes. I propose contributions in terms of simulation and numerical computation for partial differential equations and spectral analysis on manifolds. In a second part, I aim at showing how the previous framework can be applied to fundamental and clinical questions related to the variability and the morphogenesis of the cerebral cortex. In particular, I am interested in the variability of size and the variability of cortical folding pattern, two phenomena which are confounded during early brain development. The distinction between the two parts must not be seen as a way to deal with pluridisciplinary problems but rather as a choice to address several scientitfic communities at the same time.
